Social Caterpillar - Any Advice?

I was invited to a barbecue this weekend by a co-worker.   I am not terribly close to said co-worked, but it was nice he included me.  I want to go, because I am terribly anti-social, but do not want to be.  I am scared of it, though.  There will be people I know there and people I do not know, but no “friends”.  I have never been to such a thing by myself.  Should I bring drinks or something?  :(  I am so worried I will end up talking myself out of it.

I would go and bring along a friend maybe so it is easier to socialize? Go and have fun !

Go have fun. It is scary the first time you do something like this but it will get easier. Mingle with the people you do know.

Yes, I would bring something for the host. Does he like beer, wine, sparking fruit juices? And probably something you can drink so you know it is there.

    HAVE A GREAT TIME :)

Go and have a great time. Take something with you like a little appetizer or a bottle of wine. And set a goal. Like try to ask people questions about themselves. Most people like to talk about themself. It makes you seem interested in people.

I know exactly how you feel. I would always try talk myself out of things like this. Is there a friend you can bring along, it would make it less daunting? And yeah, bring some drinks, or some food with you. Even though you aren’t “friends” with anyone there you will know people from work so you will know them a little and hopefully get to know them better through this.
Best of luck, I hope you don’t talk yourself out of it, you will be so proud of yourself if you do this! :)
